Q Do motile cells climb a static 2D ligand gradient via run-and-tumble?

Claim

Do motile cells climb a static 2D ligand gradient via run-and-tumble?

E. coli navigate gradients by modulating the frequency of random reorientations (tumbles) between straight runs: when conditions improve, tumbling is suppressed and runs lengthen. Twelve non-growing motile cells sense a static exponential ligand field through a smoothed memory and bias their net displacement up-gradient. Trails show the accumulated paths.
